This Is Me

Hopelessly devoted... to him.

Mine and Isaiah’s story in a nutshell is this: we met in high school, fell into that *earth-shattering* kind of teenage love, Isaiah was a grade above me so he waited for me to graduate, and then we were married a month after on July 8, 2017.

We were 18, broke, and had no idea what we wanted in this world except each other.

Here’s a fun update: It’s about 7 years later, and he still gives me the same ol’ butterflies. We just bought our first house in our hometown of Fredericksburg (in June ‘24), and we have two dachshund mixes that we are obsessed with (like, they are our children). It has been such a wild and wonderful ride growing up and figuring out “adulting” together, definitely not easy (candidly speaking, LOL), but he's my lobster, I would not have changed any part of our story if the fate of the world depended on it. I really don’t think I could’ve dreamt up a better life for myself, and I thank God for it every single day!

This is a core belief that I try to live true to as a wife and as a wedding planner. The “once a bride, always a bride,” mindset preserves and savors romance and charm, both in and out of the workplace for me. I love my husband and our story, I love my profession, and I am undyingly passionate about both!

I know how the wedding day buildup feels, and all of the work that is put into it as the bride. I know how stressful it can be when planning it alone, and I hope I can change that for a lot of other brides who are just looking for someone to have their back, someone they can truly trust. When working with me, I want my couples to feel like they’re my one and only. I want to create something so beautifully and intentionally them, that it feels like the old wedding scrapbook in their closet is coming to life and entwining with their current Pinterest-worthy vision to create a perfect representation of who they are now.

My intention is to see it through your eyes, and then add a little pixie dust. That’s what’s going to make this so special.

Kindly, Makayla

October 2024

Nobody puts Baby in a corner, right? I finally decided I missed my brides and wedding planning way too much, and you can’t ignore a calling. And now, Kindly Kindled has made her debut! I'm the biggest believer in fate, and it feels like all of my chips fell right where they were supposed to. I am right where I’ve always been meant to be.

March 2021

I started working full-time for that local wedding planning company as an assistant planner and florist. My whole entire world changed as weddings became what I ate, slept, and breathed! It was exhausting, but we hustled and we loved it.

May 2019

I was looking for a way to make some extra money on top of my 9-5 at a local eye doctor, and responded to a sketchy ad on Indeed from a wedding DJ looking for an assistant. Shortly after, I started working pretty much all of my weekends with this DJ, and then met a local wedding planner and started helping her coordinate and do florals. Sometimes I would even work for both of them at the same event! (I called these my “double-dip” weekends, LOL.)

January 2022

I was so done with not being able to give brides enough options for their send offs, so Isaiah and I launched Sparks & Co. Events to offer cold sparks services! And boy did it take off, people LOVED what we were offering and the traction we received was incredible.

October 2022

I made the heart-wrenching decision to leave full-time wedding planning so I could focus on Sparks & Co., but continued to do day-of coordination for the company for about 10-12 weddings per year. During this time, I also got some venue management experience in!

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

I’m a leadership officer (programming & planning, of course) for the Women’s Innovation Network in Fredericksburg! I love getting to meet amazing business-minded women in my community and making new connections, so this role is very close to my heart.

One of my core beliefs: "Collaboration over Competition" is the key to all kinds of success!

Community

For my mental ADHD sanity, I love a good escape from reality. That being said, I’m an absolute bookworm and romantasy nerd (shocker, right?) I also have a fiery passion for travel - I normally have our vacations planned out six months to a year in advance and I make beautiful, detailed itineraries for all of them! Our 2025 stops: Puerto Rico & Thailand!

Adventure

My nephews are my most precious little nuggets, and for 16 years I’ve been “Kay Kay” to them, which actually makes my business initials extra special (KK Events).

Family

When I tell you I’m a hopeless romantic, and everything makes me cry, and I’ve re-watched every Nicholas Sparks movie about a hundred times - I’m not joking in the slightest. Weddings and love stories are my whole personality, and I have no shame.

Romance

My fave scripture is Proverbs 16:24- “Pleasant sayings are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and a healing to the bones."

Faith

I’m a musical theater kid through & through. (Trust that it shows, LOL.) Now I occasionally sing in a local women’s choir with three of my former voice teachers, and it is so incredibly special.

I'm also an OG, die-hard Swiftie! And my husband is what I like to call a “Swiftie by association.”

Music
